Carpet

Carpet has been an extremely popular floor covering in UK homes for many hundreds of years and the popularity of carpet is not set to wane. Although other types of flooring are becoming increasingly popular, particularly hardwood floors, which are very fashionable at the moment many people still have carpet in at least one room in their homes.

There are many different carpets available ranging from the inexpensive but easily maintainable carpet tiles that are common in schools and other public buildings to luxurious shag pile carpeting. The term carpet can also refer to rugs or varying sizes and to wall to wall carpeting, which is what most people in the UK are referring to when they use the word carpet.

Carpet can be made from a variety of different materials. Wool is commonly used and it is one of the most popular materials for carpet, however substances ranging from grass to paper can and have been used to create carpets in the past.  When choosing a carpet it is important to select one made from an appropriate material for your home. If you’re planning to lay a carpet in a hallway or room which a lot of people will be walking through then it would be wise to choose a carpet made from a durable and easily maintained material. Some expensive carpets made from exotic materials can be quite difficult to clean so it is very important to be careful not to stain or damage an expensive carpet.
