Motorhomes and caravans have regained some popularity in recent years as an increasing number of people are looking to take their holidays in the UK rather than abroad in order to save themselves some money. Although holidaying in the UK can save money the actual cost of buying motorhomes is quite high, so many people will choose to rent motorhomes instead of purchasing one for themselves. Having said that there is a highly active second hand market for motorhomes and it is possible to pick up a second hand caravan or camper van for a very reasonable price on online auction websites such as eBay or through an automotive trading magazine.
One of the greatest advantages of holidaying in motorhomes is that is allows a level of freedom that is unachievable on other holidays in hotels or without transport. Holidaymakers in motorhomes can simply move on from an area they don't like or have grown board of with a relatively low level of hassle.
However, despite this there are drawbacks to caravanning or taking a holiday in motorhomes, most of which are due to the costs involved. Maintaining one of these vehicles is fairly expensive, particularly if the motorhome included kitchen and bathroom facilities as water will need to be changed, waste tanks emptied and gas purchased to fuel the stove. Motorhomes are also an extreme annoyance for other motorists, as they are extremely slow and difficult to overtake because of their size. This can be very irritating on A roads where there is little opportunity for overtaking anyway.
