Roller Shutters

Roller shutters are used as doors and are usually constructed from horizontal pieces of material, often steel or an alloy coated or painted with vinyl, that are pieced together with hinges allowing the roller shutters to be raised to open and lowered to close. Roller shutters are frequently very heavy, especially when made from steel slats lashed together and would be very heavy for a person to raise and lower, for this reason roller shutters will often incorporate a counter balance system using large high tension springs.

Roller shutters are frequently used as doors in situations where a high level of security needs to be maintained, roller shutters can often be found being implemented as garages doors, or securing the doors and windows of buildings left over night. Roller shutters are used for these security purposes as they’re often very strong and able to withstand quite heavy blows. Roller shutters are also frequently used as the back opening for larger vans, not only for security purposes, but also because they are quite compact when fully rolled and will compromise less space in the back of vans where space is at a premium.

Roller shutters will frequently incorporate an electrical motor for purpose of automation allowing a number of different configurations. For example electrical roller shutters can be optimised to be operate via a switch or an infrared sensor.
